Safety Culture
A strong safety culture is essential to ensure the safety of our employees, clients and the general public. Given the high-risk environment of working on or near active airfields, we require strict adherence to safety, security, and operational procedures which include thorough planning and coordination with airport authorities to minimize disruptions to airfield operations. This involves establishing clear communication channels, obtaining all necessary permits, and conducting comprehensive risk assessments. Construction activities are scheduled to avoid peak flight times, and safety measures such as barrier setups, signage, and safety barriers are implemented to protect workers and aircraft. Regular safety briefings, monitoring, and adherence to aviation regulations are essential throughout the project to ensure all activities are carried out safely and efficiently.

Safety Training
Safety training is essential in creating a secure and compliant work environment. All Lagan employees have completed, as a minimum, the OSHA 10-hour training course which provides foundational knowledge for entry-level employees, emphasizing essential safety practices. All Supervisors and Managers have completed the OSHA 30-hour course which offers more in-depth training, equipping them with the skills to identify hazards and enforce safety policies effectively. Together, these programs foster a safety-conscious culture that protects workers and promotes operational efficiency.

No Observation without a Conversation
This phrase underscores Lagan’s philosophy of open communication in fostering a strong safety and mental health culture within our team. It highlights that identifying and addressing safety concerns or mental health issues cannot be effective without engaging in honest and supportive dialogue. By encouraging team members to speak up and share their observations, whether about potential hazards or personal well-being, the organization creates an environment of trust and mutual respect. This approach not only helps prevent accidents and injuries but also promotes mental health awareness, ensuring that employees feel valued, heard, and supported. Ultimately, meaningful conversations turn observations into actionable insights, reinforcing a safer, healthier, and more resilient workplace.
Health & Wellbeing
Promoting health and wellbeing initiatives encourages a supportive workplace, reduces fatigue, and enhances overall productivity and morale. By fostering open communication and a shared commitment to safety, we create a proactive environment where safety is prioritized at every stage of the delivery process, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and safely while maintaining high standards of quality and care.

Mental Health
Mental health in the construction industry is a growing concern, as workers often face high-pressure environments, long hours and physically demanding tasks. These factors can lead to stress, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse, yet mental health is still stigmatized in many construction settings, making it difficult for workers to seek help. Addressing mental health in construction is a priority for Lagan US and we have 20% of our employees trained as mental health first aiders. Improving mental health not only benefits individuals but also enhances productivity, safety, and overall morale on job sites.
